"11 Minute Ticket (5-9 revision)": This is the 3rd piece that I (d) composed for the group that I founded under the name of "The Ticket that Exploded". It's intended to be played by that quartet consisting of: Roger Dannenberg: trumpet, Ben Opie: alto sax, Jeff Weston: contrabass, & myself (tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE): electronics. The full piece is 11 minutes & has sections for free-form improvising of a slightly restricted nature. This section from minute 5 to minute 9 was through-composed by me for everyone but myself, I still have the option of playing 2 simultaneous keyboard sounds (organ & electric piano). Originally, I made the score the way I wanted it to be independent of its playability. Then I shared it with the 3 other guys and asked for their input. Roger & Ben commented on the near-impossibility of the 32nd note parts, as I expected, & Ben made criticisms of another section's dotted-note notation. For this revised version, I changed the 32nd note section by removing all 32nd notes & changing the note lengths to dotted 16th notes instead. I also removed octave or more leaps. This addressed the biggest problem of the near-impossible speed but added more difficulty to counting. I left Jeff's 32nd note section in because he didn't comment on it & because it's in the slowest section. I have yet to ask the players what they think of this revised version but I'm confident they can play it now. Even if they can't, it's not a disaster, I always factor in mistakes as what I call "special effects". - April 24, 2020 (Vision) notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
